Rev. Nelson Johnson was organizing in the textile mills when he was wounded by Nazi and Klansmen in the 1979 Greensboro Massacre. Nelson and Joyce founded the Faith Community Church and the Beloved Community Center. These were instrumental in organizing the first Truth and Reconciliation Commission on US soil, one related to the massacre. Among many efforts they have been key organizers for the Moral Mondays movement in North Carolina.\r
