Hey everybody, just wanted to do a quick video review of the Katy Perry concert we went to yesterday. We went to the second night of her two night show in Edmonton on September 1st, 2014. Just to give you a little bit of a background. We went to Lady Gaga back in May of 2014 so we have another pop act to compare it to when it comes to pop acts. You know the first three songs I absolutely hated of the concert. I’ve always liked rock music a lot. So the first three songs she started out with Roar, and then she did aPart of Me and I can’t remember the third song. It was just her and a bunch of Spartan or Roman dancers they had and there was no band on stage. I was thinking the whole concert was going to be her with no band and her singing to a backing track and I thought oh wow they’re really cutting corners. And then after the third song of the first act, what I learned is that her concert is split up into several acts so she does a costume change, her band does a costume change and so do her dancers. After the first act, her band actually came out from underneath the stage. They had a drummer, a guitarist, a bassist, a keyboardist and some backup singers in addition to the dancers. She went on stage around 9:15, 9:20. She had two openers her second opener finished around 8:40, we got to the concert around 8:45. So we waited for about a half hour, there was nothing going on the stage that we could see so she didn’t get on stage until around 9:15, 9:20. She played a two hour set of about 22. Her setlist doesn’t really change from night to night because I looked at the Calgary setlist and it was almost identical. The only difference was that she did a Dolly Parton Cover because one of her opening acts, I think it was Casey Musgraves, it was her last night of touring with Katy Perry so they did a duet together which was pretty cool. And then another really cool thing of the concert is that they have a lot of different cool set pieces so like they have a cat theme and they do change the musical arrangements for a lot of the songs, like Hot and Cold they slowed it down a lot and it had a cat kind of theme to it which was really cool. They actually do medleys of songs, so Last Friday Night (TGIF) was actually mixed in with another song. So that was really interesting to and just overall it was really good and it was really a huge stage spectacle and when she sang the song Birthday she got somebody from the audience whose birthday it was and she got them on stage and took a selfie with them and she actually did a selfie with some other people who attended the concert too.
The only other gripe I had was that they give you these 3D glasses and you don’t basically use them until she comes on stage for her second encore. She did two encores, the first one was birthday and the second one was Firework from her last album. You put on the 3d glasses and it felt more like a gimmick, but it didn’t really enhance the experience at all. Another thing I really wanted to say that was really good too was that I didn’t like the album Prism at all when I first heard it, but those songs have kind of grown on me. I think some of the songs that she did which aren’t singles, but they’re really good songs is International Smile which sounds great live and as well as another song which is called Walking on Air. Another cool part is that they had this 90’s dance mix so basically it was an interlude while she was getting changed, so they had her dancers doing these all these different dance moves to these different dance songs. It was really cool. So overall it was really good and it was easily one of the best concerts I’ve been to this summer. We’ve seen Queen, we saw lady Gaga, we went to Sonic Boom 2013/2014 and we saw Arcade Fire. I think it was easily the longest concert we went to and the biggest stage spectacle we’ve seen. It was really There were a few times where we could tell she was obviously singing to a backing track, which was okay, but you’ve come to expect that with pop music but I think overall if you’re a Katy Perry fan and if she’s coming t
