Who saw this coming? One of the most famous bands of all time looks like they’re finally going to be making their rhythm game debut! Despite the belief that the Irish legends U2 wouldn’t appear unless it was a Beatles: Rock Band type deal, it seems as though all that has finally changed!
USA Today posted a video today featuring an interview with Matthew Nordhaus talking about new features in the game, as well as some of the artists featured on the setlist. Among mentions of .38 Special and Mumford & Sons, a mention of U2 was dropped and some music was heard. Based on the video’s title (0921 rock band 4), it seems that this clearly wasn’t meant to go up today, but as it stands, here we are.
Heard in the video is the very early single I Will Follow, from their debut album Boy. If things are to be understood correctly, however, that’s not the only U2 song featured on disc, since Nordhaus can be heard saying they have 2 in the setlist. If that’s true, that would mean U2 join the exclusive ranks of Queen, The Beatles, and Green Day as the only artists to have more than one song on disc (not counting Track Packs, of course).
Also dropped in the video was the fact that there will be “plenty more” coming as DLC in the future. It’s unknown when or what exactly we’ll be seeing, but this now makes two huge gets that will be receiving DLC packs for Rock Band 4 down the line, after Van Halen.
UPDATE: It’s official now! USA Today published their article and in it the 2nd song was revealed to us. From their most recent (and controversial) album Songs of Innocence is the track Cedarwood Road. This means that Rock Band 4 officially has a career spanning selection of U2 tracks on disc!
