UK terror law incompatible with human rights, court rules in David Miranda case

A key clause in the Terrorism Act 2000 is incompatible with the European convention on human rights, the court of appeal rules on Monday. David Miranda was carrying material from whistleblower Edward Snowden when he was detained at Heathrow in 2013. Although officers were right to hold him on security grounds, Lord Dyson rules that existing legislation did not have sufficient safeguards to protect journalists and their material and will need to be re-examined.
