A blue star sapphire, said to be the world’s largest of its kind, is displayed after being discovered in Sri Lanka. The gem’s owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, said on Wednesday that it weighs about 281 grammes. The rare egg-shaped stone weighs 1,404.49 carats and has been authenticated as the biggest of its kind at the Gemological Institute of Colombo.
