Saudi Arabia’s interior ministry announces on Saturday that the country has executed 47 prisoners convicted of terrorism charges, including Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr. Nimr was a prominent and vocal Shia leader in the eastern province of Qatif, willing to publicly criticise the ruling al-Saud family and calling for elections. Of those executed, 45 were Saudi citizens, one was from Chad and another was from Egypt.
