LOS ANGELES — A family of tourists feared for their lives on Christmas night as they drove through the middle of a raging wildfire.
Maaike Maks and her family of five from the Netherlands didn't realise they were heading into the heart of the blaze on the evening of Dec. 25, CNN reported.
The family were driving from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara after watching an NBA game between the Lakers and the Clippers.
Maks began filming the scene as fire scorched the earth on either side of the road and sent burning embers and bush flying onto the car, she told CNN.
The family escaped the ordeal by speeding away from the inferno.
The fire blazed from Christmas night into Boxing Day, burning more than 1,200 acres of land in Solimar Beach, Ventura County, according to KABC.
Officials said two firefighters were injured in the fire, which was caused by downed power lines amid a drought and high winds, CNN reported.
