MIRAMAR, FLORIDA — An employee shot and killed a masked gunman as he tried to rob a Miramar seafood restaurant on Wednesday night, police said.
Just before 6 p.m., a man wearing a ski mask and gloves entered Captain Max Seafood restaurant at 3700 State Road 7, and brandished a gun.
After an "exchange of words" with the gunman, a restaurant employee used his own weapon to stop the attempted robbery, said Miramar Police spokeswoman Tania Rues.
"A restaurant employee fired several shots and killed the suspect," she said.
Police are still looking into whether the masked man discharged his weapon before he was shot.
Police identified the robbery suspect as 26-year-old Roosevelt Jones on Thursday. Authorities said a second suspect may have been involved in the failed robbery.
An eyewitness told Local 10 News she heard four gunshots while waiting in the drive-thru of the restaurant.
Detectives said surveillance cameras inside the restaurant did not record the incident.
According to Local 10 News, at least one customer was inside the restaurant at the time of the shooting, but no one else was injured.
