TORONTO — Twenty-eight-year-old Rosemarie Junor had been on the brink of death since last Friday after a smartly dressed businesswoman stabbed her without provocation in a downtown Toronto drugstore. Junor was on life support for nearly a week before succumbing to her injuries early Thursday morning.
Police took Rohinie Bisesar, 40, into custody several days after the attack on Junor. Bisesar was originally being charged for attempted murder, aggravated assault and for carrying a concealed weapon after the incident. But now that her victim has died, Bisesar's charge has been changed to second degree murder, reported the National Post.
Bisesar, a former financier who had no prior criminal record, walked into a Shopper's Mart in Toronto's financial district last Friday afternoon with a concealed knife. She then — for an unknown reason — targeted Junor, who was talking on her phone while shopping in the store. The victim was stabbed in the heart and was hospitalized with critical injuries.
Although both women graduated from York University — Bisesar with a Masters of Business Administration degree and Junor with a degree in occupational therapy — there doesn't seem to be any indication that the two actually knew each other. Rather, it seems that Junor, who got married this past August, appeared to have simply been at the wrong place at the wrong time.
According to the National Post, just 10 minutes before Bisesar's arrest, a person claiming to be Bisesar sent an email to the National Post apologizing for the incident, saying she had felt the need to be "extreme." The email, in which Bisesar admits that she has not been her normal self, has led police to question her mental health. Since Bisesar's arrest, friends have come forth and told the National Post that Bisesar's mental health has been deteriorating for years.
