As a 17-day hunger strike held by 1000 FARC political prisoners came to an end, family members and rights groups demonstrated outside ‘La Picota’ prison to support ongoing demands for adequate medical treatment for all political prisoners who are subjected to torture and inhumane treatment. After the recent government announcement of plans to release 30 imprisoned FARC members, the hunger strikers called off the strike but continue to press for humane treatment and the release of 81 seriously ill prisoners who are likely to die in their current conditions.
