A massive filament is seen bursting free of the sun's hold in a recent video released by NASA.
Previously tethered above the solar surface by magnetic forces, it erupted past the breaking point on November 15th.
The escaping strand of solar material took an almost circular form as it swiftly moved into the black void of space.
A second, smaller strip of plasma also broke off in a boomerang-like shape-and-spin soon after.
The filaments appear darker than the sun itself because they're relatively cooler than the scorching surface.
