The pope was speaking in Nairobi, the scene of the Westgate shopping mall shooting carried out by Somali Islamist group al-Shabaab.
Pope Francis: “Here I think of the importance of our common conviction that the God whom we seek to serve is a God of peace. His holy name must never be used to justify hatred and violence.”
The pope met with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and celebrated mass attended by tens of thousands at the University of Nairobi.

After Kenya the pope will travel to Uganda and the Central African Republic.
