A Lamborghini Murcielago car was found abandoned after it met with an accident near India Gate, police said. Citing eyewitness account, cops said the driver appeared to have lost control of the car while taking a turn towards Purana Quila Road from the C-Hexagon. The speeding car reportedly hit the divider and then rammed into a concrete pole before coming to a halt.
The occupants seemed to be unhurt. By the time the police reached the accident spot, the occupants managed to remove the number plates of the vehicle and fled. The rear wheel was also found to be missing. Cops confirmed the registration number to be DL 3C BR 8055.
The car (model number LP-670-4-SV) was found to be registered with a Noida-based real estate firm, the directors of which have been summoned by the cops to identify the driver. A police officer said they would scan through the details of all the 26 Lamborghini owners in India to trace the accused. Special cranes had to be used to haul away the vehicle to the Tilak Marg police station.
The Lamborghini Murcielago is a sports car with a 661-horsepower engine that can clock a top speed of 350kmph. Experts suggest this can be handled only by trained drivers.
An officer said the incident had happened around 1.30am when the driver, who appeared to be a novice, failed to control the car speed after taking a left turn near the Baroda House. A case of negligent driving and causing damage to public property has been registered against the driver. The directors of the company have also been asked to join the probe.
