Opozita është kundër ashpërsimeve ne kodin penal, deri ne 40 vite burg, te propozuara nga ministria e Drejtësisë per nje kategori te caktuar krimesh, siç jane vrasja e funksionarëve publike, policeve dhe marrëdhëniet seksuale me te mitur. Ish-prokurorja Ermonale Felaj, anëtarja socialiste e komisionit te Ligjeve tha se aplikimi i këtyre lloj dënimesh, krijon zhbalancim ne masën e penaliteteve.Te majtët kundërshtojnë edhe heqjen e mundësisë se lirimit me kusht per te dënuarit.Vasilika Hysi tha se nese ekziston problematika e nxjerrjes nga burgu te te burgosurve, fale ryshfeteve, atëherë legjislativi duhet te ushtroje presion mbi gjykatat dhe prokuroret dhe jo duke ashpërsuar kodin penal. Paketa e amendimeve te kodit penal, erdhi si përgjigje e qeverise ndaj rritjes se frikshme te krimeve te dhunshme ne familje, ndaj te miturve por edhe ndaj goditjes se zyrtareve.
