Më 17 shkurt të vitit 2008, vendi me shumicë shqiptare, me mbështetjen e Shteteve të Bashkuara të Amerikës dhe vendeve perëndimore, do të fitonte pavarësinë e kushtëzuar.
Ne kujtim te asaj dite, Prishtina është zbukuruar me flamurin e Kosovës, me flamuj kombëtarë shqiptarë, si dhe të vendeve që e kanë njohur shtetin më të ri në Ballkan. Rrugët e kryeqytetit, por edhe të qyteteve kryesore kosovare janë mbushur me qytetarë, që kujtojnë këtë përvjetor të rëndësishëm. Në mesditë nisi parada e trupave të FSK-së dhe Policisë së Kosovës. Këto forca, janë edhe aspirata e shtetit të ri, për të patur autoritetet e saj të pavarura e të përgjegjshme për të ruajtur integritetin territorial të Kosovës dhe sigurinë e brendshme. Ndërsa në orën 20:00, festimet do të përmbyllen me një koncert të madh në qendër të Prishtinës që do të kulmojë me lëshimin e dhjetëra fishekzjarreve. Presidenti i Shqipërisë Nishani po merr pjesë në ceremonitë festive në Prishtinë, ndërsa kryeministri Berisha ka uruar përmes facebook-ut gjithë qytetarët e Kosovës për këtë ditë historike. Në Kosovë ndodhet edhe kryetari i Partisë Socialiste, për të qenë pjesë e festimeve.

President of Albania Nishani is participating in festive ceremonies in Pristina, while Prime Minister Berisha congratulated through Facebook all citizens of Kosovo on this historic day. Kosovo is also the chairman of the Socialist Party, to be part of the celebrations.
