A prestigious department store in Berlin has decided to remove Israeli products made in the settlements from its shelves, pending clarification on the EU's resolution to label such products , Der Spiegel reported over the weekend.
According to Der Spiegel, the European Union's guidelines on labeling products originating from Israeli settlements in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, have caused much confusion for German retailers.
"We strongly protest this step, which is unacceptable morally, historically and on its merits," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday, calling on the German government to act on the matter.
The Galeria Kaufhof department store chain, meanwhile, is still offering some Israeli products, including some made in West Bank settlements and the Golan Heights.
