Kompetencat që i lihen këshillit të ankësave për të vendosur nëse do të marrë në shqyrtim rastet e denoncuara nga mediat ishin pjesa kryesore e diskutimit nen për nen të draftit për mediat audiovizive. Sipas deputetëve të komisionit të medias, ligji lejon që ky këshill të vendosë me subjektivizëm. Por sipas ekspertëve këto kompetenca këshilli i ka patur edhe te ligji i mëparshëm. Nga ana tjetër opozita kërkoi që këshilli i ankesave të ketë status më vete, në mënyrë që të mos krijojë varësi nga institucionet e tjera.
