Afrimi i datës kur çelen zyrtarisht procedurat parlamentare për zgjedhjen e Presidentit të ri të Republikës, ka shpeshtuar kontaktet mes aktorëve politikë në vend dhe ka shtuar lëvizjet e ambasadorëve kryesorë në Tiranë. Shefi i delegacionit të BE-së, Ettore Sequi, takoi në mesditë për rreth 1 ore liderin e opozitës Edi Rama. Biseda u ndal në çështjen e përzgjedhjes së kryetarit të shtetit. Mësohet se zoti Rama parashtroi qëndrimin e të majtëve në këtë proces, që kalon përmes konsultimesh paraprake mes gjithë partive parlamentare. Shefi i opozitës ka ftuar madje përmes një letre publike 5 krerët e këtyre forcave të ulen në tryezë. Por kryeministri Berisha ka lënë të kuptohet se tryeza mund të mbahet vetëm kur parlamenti të jetë brenda periudhës së zgjedhjes së Presidentit. Aktualisht është vetëofruar si kandidat për President Fatos Nano, i cili duket më aktivi në këtë fushatë. Ai ka takuar Edi Ramen, Ilir Metën, Vangjel Dulen dhe Shpëtim Idrizin, në përpjekje për t'i bindur ta mbështesin me votë. PAD-ja propozon Neritan Cekën, ndërsa Aleanca Demokristiane, Jozefina Topallin. Por ende mungon kandidatura zyrtare e demokratëve, veç deklarimit të zotit Berisha se do të jetë një nga figurat drejtuese të partisë.
