Nga sot çdo shtetas shqiptar qe nuk ka pasaporte biometrike nuk mund te lëvize jashtë kufjeve apo te kryej ato shërbime ku ky dokument është i domosdoshëm. Pasaporta e vjetër tashme është e pavlefshme. Sipas numrit dy te ministrisë se brendshme Feridnand Poni deri tani kane aplikuar për dokumentin biometrik 2.217 mije shtetas, ndërsa për kartën e identitetit numri është me i madh 2.984 mije.
Një përjashtim do te behet vetëm për emigrantet. Ata qe ende kane pasaportën e vjetër mund te hyjnë ne atdhe, gjate kësaj periudhe, por nuk mund te kthehen ne vendet ku punojnë e jetojnë, pa dokumentin e ri. 29 shkurti ishte afati i fundit i përdorimit te pasaportave te vjetra. Tashme për te gjithë është detyrim nxjerrja e dokumentit te ri biometrik dhe kartës se identitetit. Zv/ministri i brendshëm ka deklaruar se për shmangien e falsifikimeve, te cilat nuk kane munguar, procedurat janë me te rrepta. Çdo shtetas para aplikimit duhet te marre një dokument ne komisariatin e policisë, qe vërteton identitetin e tij, me pas te dhënat i kalojnë njësisë vendore ku behet aplikimi. Pasaporta biometrike del 15 dite pas kryerjes se aplikimit dhe vetëm tri dite kur zgjedh rrugën me te shpejte dhe sigurisht me dyfishin e çmimit.
