Pavarësisht se Beogradi zyrtar e ka cilësuar referendumin si jo te ligjshëm, serbet ne veri te Kosovës i janë drejtuar kutive te votimit për te shprehur vullnetin e tyre nëse i njohin ose jo institucionet ne Prishtinë. Me shume se 35 mije zgjedhës janë regjistruar ne listat zgjedhore ne katër rajone me shumice serbe dhe pritshmërite nga ana e drejtuesve te këtij referendumi janë te larta qe pjesëmarrja do te jete mbi 50%. Votimi ne veri ka nisur ne orën 06:00 te mëngjesit dhe do te mbyllet ne orën 18:00. Ndërkohë presidenti serb Boris Tadic i ka cilësuar zgjedhjet jo kushtetuese. Ai tha për mediat vendase se referendumi shërben vetëm për te thelluar krizën mes dy vendeve fqinje. Paralelisht me votimet ne veri, ndërmjetësuesi i Bashkimit Evropian ne bisedimet Prishtine-Beograd, Robert Kuper, qëndron sot për një vizite ne Kosovë. Mësohet se ne fokus te vizitës se tij ne Prishtinë, është çështja e përfaqësimit te emrit te Kosovës ne takimet rajonale. Edhe përpara këtij takimi, përfaqësuesja e palës kosovare, Edita Tahiri ka deklaruar se nuk do te pranoje as propozimin për heqjen e termit "Republike" dhe as atë për vendosjen e termit "nen rezolutën 12 44".
Despite that official Belgrade has described the referendum as not legitimate, Serbs in northern Kosovo have approached the ballot box to express their will if they know or not the institutions in Pristina. Parallel to the polls in the north, the European Union mediator in negotiations between Pristina and Belgrade, Robert Cooper, stands today on a visit to Kosovo. Learned that the focus of his visit to Pristina, is the issue of representation in the name of Kosovo in regional meetings.
