2012 do te jete viti me i vështirë për arsimin shqiptar. Ndonëse ai është shpallur prioritet i demokrateve, qeveria ne planifikimin e buxhetit i ka akorduar sasinë me te paket te fondeve.
Për vitin e ardhshëm ai do te zërë vetëm 2.8 % te Prodhimit te Brendshëm Bruto gati ne te njëjtin nivel me shifrat e vitit 2005. Ministri i Arsimit, Myqerem Tafaj, gjate prezantimit te projektbuxhetit ne komision, pranoi uljen e fondeve. Megjithe deklarimet se tkurrja e tij nuk do te ndikoje ne paga dhe vendet e punës se arsimtareve, opozita parashikon si vitin me te keq për arsimin. 38.9 miliard leke është buxheti i akorduar arsimit nga qeveria për vitin e ardhshëm. Me këtë fond vetëm 1.6% me te larte se 2011, Ministria ka planifikuar rritje investimesh vetëm për arsimin profesional. Te gjitha ciklet e tjera nuk do te kenë shtim te konsiderueshëm parash. Ndërsa fondi i investimeve krahasuar me 2009 është përgjysmuar. Ministri Tafaj deklaroi se ne 2012 do te ketë rikonstruksione te shkollave kryesisht ato ne gjendje emergjence, ndërsa ndërtimet e reja janë shume pakta. Për here te pare kreu i arsimit pranoi se qeveria dështoi ne premtimin e saj për dyfishimin e buxhetit. Sipas planifikimit te Ministrisë, arsimi baze merr 60% te buxhetit, 13 % ai i mesëm, 6.5% ai profesional dhe 16 % arsimi i larte. Fondi për kërkimin shkencor edhe këtë vit është ne nivele shume te ulëta, 262 milion leke.
