Regjistrimi i popullsisë në Maqedoni, i cili ka nisur me 1 tetor, mund te zgjasë përtej 15 tetorit, si data e parashikuar për mbylljen e tij. Një lajm i tille është publikuar nga agjencia e lajmeve INA, duke cituar burime pranë komisionit shtetëror te regjistrimit.
Si arsye për shtyrjen e procesit te regjistrimit përmenden problemet etnike dhe organizative ne terren. Nëse nuk do te arrihet një kompromis mes grupeve shqiptare dhe maqedonase te regjistrimit, atëherë komisioni do t'i kërkoje parlamentit ndryshimin e ligjit për regjistrimin ne pjesën e kohëzgjatjes se tij. Sipas raportimeve ne terren, ne zona etnikisht te pastra shqiptare, ose ne qytete me shumice popullsisë shqiptare, si ne komunën e Lukovës, ne Tetove ose ne Gostivar, nuk janë paraqitur regjistruesit maqedonas. Ndërsa ne disa zona te Maqedonisë lindore, si ne Manastir, ne Prilep apo ne Veles mungoje regjistruesit shqiptare. Komisioni shtetëror i regjistrimit, përmes nënkryetarit, Bujar Osmani, pranon se ka zona ku nuk janë formuar ende grupet e regjistrimit për shkak te mosmarrëveshjeve, gjë qe rrezikon ta shtyje ne kohe procesin. Përveç problemeve teknike ne Tetove është shënuar edhe një incident kur dy anëtarë te komisionit rajonal janë zënë mes tyre për një kompjuter. Autoritetet kane nisur hetimet për ngjarjen, por e kane cilësuar atë si një rast te izoluar. Faktori politik shqiptar ka bere thirrje te vazhdueshme për mos bojkotim te regjistrimit, ne kërkim te një përfaqësimi sa me real ne shifra te pjesës shqiptare ne Maqedoni. Ne regjistrimin e fundit, te kryer ne vitin 2002, shqiptaret përbenin 25,2 për qind te popullsisë.
