A 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Japan early Saturday morning.
The quake, which hit near the the country’s southwestern islands just before 6 a.m. local time, triggered a small tsunami of about 1 ft. (30 cm), according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
There was no threat of a tsunami traveling across the Pacific Ocean to the western coast of North America, the National Tsunami Warning Center said.
