MINNEAPOLIS — A black man in his 20s died after he was shot in the head by a police officer early Sunday in Minneapolis, RT reported.

The officer were responding to an assault report.

The incident sparked outrage and protests in the city, as witnesses said the suspect was handcuffed and unarmed when he was shot.

“Every witness account I heard said he was handcuffed. Every witness account. Put a knee on him and shot in the head. That’s the account I’ve heard from young people, older people, etc.,” said Jason Sole, criminal justice chair for the Minneapolis NAACP.

James Clark, 24, was lying on the ground handcuffed and unarmed, witnesses said, while two officers surrounded him. He did not resist arrest.

Police however maintain a different version of the story and claim two officers arrived at the scene where paramedics were helping Clark’s girlfriend after she reported assault.

Clark was not handcuffed at that time, and the shooting broke only after a struggle between him and the officer ensued.

Clark died on Sunday at 7 p.m., after his life supporting machine was turned off.

Activists demanding “Justice for Jamar” blocked traffic in downtown Minneapolis on Sunday. They ask a video recording of the incident.

According to the Guardian, 51 people have been arrested at the protests.
