Honduran Secrecy Law Could Stifle Media, Critics Charge

2015-11-17 4

Honduras' newly enacted Secrecy Law could be used as a weapon to control the press, critics charge. According to the legislation, those revealing protected information could be sentenced from 4 to 7 years in jail. Although the law has yet to be applied, it is broad and discretional and can be selectively used against journalists. Furthermore, it is the authorities themselves who will determine what information is to be classified as secret. Gerardo Torres reports from Tegucigalpa. teleSUR
