Local elections were held in Paraguay over the weekend in what was regarded as a test for the ruling Colorado Party. The capital city of Asuncion, the most disputed city, was won by Mario Ferreiro, marking the increasing rejection by the population of the policies of President Horacio Cartes and putting an end to 20 years of right-wing hegemony.
