For a few moments on Saturday evening, the thousands of people who gathered in Trafalgar Square stood and listened to a lone violinist play for the victims of the Paris attacks. The young man walked into the crowd, opened his case, took out his violin and played two mournful pieces of music that visibly moved many at the central London vigil. As he performed people took out their phones, switched on their flashlights and held them aloft.
