Today marks the 30th anniversary of the mudslide that wiped out the Colombian town of Armero, killing over 25,000 people. The mudslide was caused by an explosion of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano. Even though experts had warned the government of volcanic activity months prior to the explosion, no one expected that the entire town would be destroyed. The human dimension of the tragedy was captured in the photo of a young victim of the mudslide, Omayra Sanchez. teleSUR.
