WASHINGTON, D.C. — Kepler-452b, a planet located 1,400 light-years away from Earth, was announced on Thursday as the most Earth-like planet ever found by NASA, which is naming it 'Earth 2.0'.

The exoplanet Kepler-452b orbits around a G-star similar to our sun every 385-days in the constellation Cygnus. It is five percent farther away from its sun than Earth is to our sun, but receives the same amount of sunshine, as its sun is 10 percent larger, NASA said in the press conference.

NASA believes the exoplanet is five times more massive than Earth, with a rocky surface and a thicker atmosphere, while gravity would be about twice as strong on Kepler-452b than it is on Earth.

This is the 1,030th planet confirmed by the Kepler Space Telescope, according to NASA. The telescope will continue its mission of finding 'Goldilocks planets' — planets that are not too cold nor too hot for liquid water to form.

NASA plans to carry out a spectroscopic analysis of Kepler-452b to gain a better understanding of its atmosphere.
