This video shows Pierre Elliott Trudeau saying quite clearly that introduction of the Official Languages Act was solely so that Quebeckers can speak French to their government.
Somehow this concept has been SEVERELY abused and we now have French speaking ministers demanding that English speaking ministers MUST respond to their Questions in French.
This WAS NEVER the intent.

If Miss Turmel chooses to ask her Questions in French then fine, but, the English speaking ministers should have the right to respond in English if they so choose and SHOULD NOT be badgered and bullied in this way.
