Check out what an Apache leader who protested the Redskins' team name wore for Halloween

SAN CARLOS, ARIZONA — San Carlos, Arizona Apache chairman Terry Rambler has found himself in hot water this week after donning blackface as part of a Halloween costume.

The tribe leader is known for his strong opposition to the "racially offensive" name still in use by Washington D.C.'s Redskins NFL franchise, and, according to the Washington Post, even expressed his dissatisfaction with the team name in a meeting with President Obama two years ago.

Given all this, it's unsurprising that so many were outraged and undoubtedly struck with a feeling of irony when they discovered what Rambler decided to dress up as this past Halloween.

An apparent fan of Bob Marley, he painted himself a few shades darker, threw on some dreads, a Rastafarian hat and threw up a peace sign, in a poorly thought out attempt to imitate the Jamaican reggae legend.

Given his sensitivity to racial issues, it's surprising that Rambler didn't foresee that he'd be adding to the overwhelming raft of blackface images that flood the web and get roundly lambasted every single Halloween.

Rambler has yet to provide a proper explanation for the more than careless lapse of judgement, but took to Facebook on Thursday to apologize for his actions and ask for forgiveness.

"I did this thinking I wanted to dress up as one of my favorite musicians, Bob Marley," wrote Rambler. "But in hindsight, it was a poor choice I made. I am not a racist and I did not mean to offend anyone but I realize I did. There is no one to blame but me. I take full responsibility for my action."
