Haiti: Strike Over Tax Hikes Paralyzes Public Transportation

The National Platform of Transport Unions estimated that 70% of public transportation in the country was paralyzed on Monday, during the first day of a two-day strike. Although Prime Minister Evans Paul announced that tax increases would be withdrawn, the striking workers are demanding a presidential decree confirming the Prime Minister’s announcements. The say the strike will continue on Tuesday. The government had already lowered fuel prices after previous strikes swept the capital city last February and March. teleSUR
