Colombian President Acknowledges State Responsibility in 1985 Massacre

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos offered a public apology and accepted the state's responsibility for the forced disappearances that resulted from the 1985 military assault on the Palace of Justice, which had been seized by the M-19 leftist guerrillas. In 2014 the Inter-American Court of Human Rights declared the Colombian government guilty of forced disappearance, torture, and summary executions in relation to the incident.
