NEW YORK CITY — This was supposed to be the New York Mets' year. Sure pitcher Matt Harvey had arm issues and forgot about practice, but then second baseman Daniel Murphy got in the zone and was absolutely en fuego in October, becoming a home run smashing machine.
And then the World Series began against the Kansas City Royals and the New York house of cards came tumbling down. The Mets were plagued with critical errors throughout the series, while the Royals were just better.
In Game 5 on Sunday night at Citi Field, Harvey was throwing straight heat with the Mets up 2-0, but then the comeback kids did what they do best. Royals centerfielder Lorenzo Cain stole second base and then scored on teammate Eric Hosmer's double. Then Hosmer scored after Mets first baseman Lucas Duda's wild throw home tying it 2-2.
The Royals then crushed the Mets in the 12th inning to finish the game 7-2 and take home the World Series title for the first time since 1985. Congratulations to the 2015 World Series champs, the Kansas City Royals.
