LOS ANGELES — She finally did it. Rachel Dolezal, the white US academic and civil rights activist famous for identifying herself as a black woman, admitted during an interview on TV show The Real that she was born white.
What a surprise.
It all started in 1998, when people started identifying her as biracial and police marked her race as black on her tickets, the Telegraph reported.
By 2006, she 'became' black.
In June 2015 however, her parents stated public that she was not African-American, but just European, from Germany and Czech Republic.
"Sometimes how we feel is more powerful than how we're born," she explained.
But not powerful enough to convince her employers at an African-American university and at the Spokane National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to keep her in a job.
Well at least she's no longer saying there's "no biological proof" that her white parents are her parents. Now she seems to prefer to say that we all come from the continent of Africa, and that her identity is still the one of a black person.
Well, now that it's all clarified, and that we know she knows she is white, at least interviewers will hopefully stop reminding her what she is, or she is not: black.
