This month, more than 500 Honduran campesinos have been violently evicted in four rural communities. The evictions were carried out by security forces working on behalf of powerful landlords. The government claims the land was invaded by the peasant farmers, who argue that it was given to them in agrarian reforms from the 1970s to 1992. As part of the reforms, the government gave 400,000 hectares of land to campesinos, of which wealthy landowners are seeking to recover 350,000 hectares.
