Hurricane Patricia made landfall in southern Mexico on October 23. The Category 5 storm was the most powerful ever recorded, bringing winds of 165mph and heavy rain as it pounded the coast. The storm weakened over land and on the morning of October 24 was described locally as a Category 1 hurricane by the national meteorological service.
