There are numerous films set to be released in 2016. While some films are in production but do not yet have definite release dates, others have announced release dates but have yet to begin filming.
1- London Has Fallen is an upcoming American action thriller film directed by Babak Najafi and written by Creighton Rothenberger, Katrin Benedikt and Chad St. John. It is a sequel to Olympus Has Fallen. The film stars Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman.
Filming began on October 24, 2014, in London, a Christmas break started in November with filming resumed in February 2015. London Has Fallen is set to be released on January 22, 2016, by Focus Features under their recently revived Gramercy Pictures label.
2- The Finest Hours is an upcoming American disaster drama film directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay written by Scott Silver, Eric Johnson and Paul Tamasy, based on the 2009 eponymous book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias. The film is based on the true story of the Pendleton rescue mission attempt in 1952 by Coast Guard ships, wherein two oil tankers were split asunder by a nor'easter. The film is scheduled to be released by Walt Disney Pictures in the Disney Digital 3-D, RealD 3D, and IMAX 3D formats on January 29, 2016.
3- Iron Sky is a 2012 Finnish-Australian-German comic science fiction action film directed by Timo Vuorensola and written by Johanna Sinisalo and Michael Kalesniko.[5][6] It tells the story of a group of Nazi Germans who, having been defeated in 1945, fled to the Moon, where they built a space fleet to return in 2018 and conquer Earth.
Iron Sky comes from the creators of Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning and was produced by Tero Kaukomaa of Blind Spot Pictures and Energia Productions, co-produced by New Holland Pictures and 27 Films, and co-financed by numerous individual supporters; Samuli Torssonen was responsible for the computer-generated imagery. It was theatrically released throughout Europe in April 2012.A director's cut of the film with 20 additional minutes was released on DVD and Blu-ray on 11 March 2014.
A video-game adaptation titled Iron Sky: Invasion was released in October 2012. A sequel, titled Iron Sky: The Coming Race, is currently being crowdfunded through Indiegogo and is slated for a 2016 release.
