He later moved to Minneapolis/Saint Paul, where he attended Mounds View High School. After graduation he went to the Manhattan School of Music in New York, the University of Minnesota, and the Aspen Music Festival. He has been a professional oboist and oboe teacher, and in 1983 established Midwest Musical Imports in Minneapolis, which he has built into a successful music business now in its thirty-second year.
