Former Panamanian president Ricardo Martinelli is facing four criminal charges and a possible 20-year prison sentence for espionage. Martinelli is accused of using public funds to tap phones and read communications and having employees of the National Security Council monitor activists, union members, and politicians while he was in office from 2009-2014.
