Elmer Campos became paraplegic after police shot him twice in the back with a high caliber assault weapon while he was peacefully protesting mining contamination in the lakes around his home in the province of Celendin , Cajamarca region, in northern Peru. His ancestors have lived in the area for thousands of years, but now the United States gold-mining company Newmont is devastating the area with the support of the government. A lawsuit was filed against the police, who are on the Newmont payroll, but to date, there has been no justice for Elmer Campos. Rael Mora reports from Lima for teleSUR
