A temple situated near the confluence of Alaknanda River and Nandakini River at Nandaprayag in Uttarakhand.
Nandaprayag is one of the Panch Prayags on the Alakananda River. At an elevation of about 2,500 ft, Nandaprayag lies at the confluence of the Alakananda River and Nandakini River. Nandaprayag serves as a gateway to Badrinath and Kedarnath, the famous pilgrimage sites.
Nandaprayag is a nature's paradise and it attracts pilgrims from all over the world. It is surrounded with high mountain peaks of Dunagiri, Nanda Devi and Trishul.
Located in the Himalayan ranges, the pilgrim town is known for its salubrious climate and is an excellent summer getaway. Nandaprayag is popular for the amazing view of snow peaks and the Gopalji Temple located on the banks of River Alakananda.
According to mythological tales, the region of Nandaprayag was once the capital of the Yadu dynasty. King Nand performed a very elaborate purification ritual on a stone that later became the foundation for the Nand Temple in Nandaprayag. It is believed that the birth of Lord Krishna in Nandaprayag was the result of the ritual that was performed by King Nand.
