School girls dance and celebrate Raksha bandhan in India

2015-10-12 74

These school girls come from modest farming and labourer family backgrounds and study in an open against a wall in the fields around Delhi. Yet, they have clean faces, are cheerful and optimistic about their futures and strive to learn and educate themselves, to be able to face the challenge of the New India.

Don't miss the gong and hammer that serve as a school bell in the last frame!

The most popular festival of India - Raksha Bandhan is also celebrated in schools with girl children tying the Rakhi band to boys. Some girls don’t have brothers and so they tie a rakhi on their friends' wrists and thus ritualise Raksha Bandhan.
