Angry citizens took to the streets of Lima on Monday night to protest a meeting of the IMF and World Bank and the relationship of the institutions to the Conga mining disaster. In it, a truck spilled toxic materials, leading to health problems in the local population. Both international institutions held shares in the gold and copper mining company. Also arriving in Lima are protesters who oppose the environmentally destructive changes made in the MMG Bambas mining project in Apurimac in southern Peru, as well as military presence in the area under a state of emergency.
