You youngsters probably didn`t know that for all the ado about a more recent incarnation of the club centered around the likes of Cavani and Hamsik, NAPOLI had its heyday in the late 1980s when the club grabbed two SCUDETTI (1987 and 1990), one COPPA ITALIA (1987) and one UEFA CUP (1989). During those years, SSC Neapel was the launching pad for the world careers of GIANFRANCO ZOLA (who, at Napoli, was Maradona`s very own master-pupil) and CIRO FERRARA (who left the club for JUVE in 1994 where he went on to win several scudetti and the Champions League in 1996). In 1987, Maradona was joined by a player who was almost en par with him: Brazilian Antonio Oliveira de Filho who was the world`s most formidable striker at the time. During the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, CARECA had scored 5 goals for a Brazilian team that, albeit aging, is still rightly considered as one of most brilliant teams in World Cup history.
