2015-09-30 2

Peruvian national police killed three demonstrators who were protesting against a copper mining project in the remote Andean region of Cotabambas. When activists broke into the mine to demand adherence to an environmental plan, police fired teargas. At least 10 protesters also had bullet wounds. Peru is the world’s third largest copper producer and is expected to double its output in coming years. The Cotabambas mine is expected to dig up 400,000 tons each year. teleSUR
