Wednesday’s announcement by the Colombian government and FARC rebels has been widely welcomed. After more than a year of discussions on the issue of justice, the two sides came to an agreement to establish a judicial commission to prosecute military officers as well as FARC members deemed responsible for crimes committed during the conflict. This agreement sets the peace process on its final stretch, according to human rights observers. A six month deadline has been set to reach a final agreement.
