Deteriorating air quality means that all primary and secondary schools in Singapore will be closed on Friday due to the persistent haze caused by forest fires in neighbouring Indonesia.
Large parts of southeast Asia have been engulfed by the haze from the fires, said to have been set illegally to clear vegetation.
Indonesia has ordered four companies to suspend operations for allegedly causing the fires, an environment ministry official said on Tuesday.
Indonesia has launched investigations against more than 200 firms as it tries to bring the fires under control by the end of November, amid complaints from Singapore and Malaysia.
