Thanks to mediation efforts by Ecuador and Uruguay, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his Colombian counterpart Juan Manuel Santos will finally meet on Monday. Santos said the meeting was made possible because Caracas had adopted measures addressing some of the problems caused by the border crossing closures and indicated the need to resolve issues such as contraband and activity by criminal gangs in the affected areas.
