F. Chris Garcia and two of his colleagues are founders of the survey research firm, Zia Research Associates. When Zia was established, it was the first full-service opinion survey research firm in New Mexico at the time. He is a retired political science professor the University of New Mexico. As of 2011 he is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Political Science at UNM. Zia was established in 1973, and they ran it until 1993.
